Lakers Youth Hockey Online Registration

2008-09 Season

Overview
The online registration process requests the same information that is included in the traditional paper registration form. This service is available to all players, but players who did not play with the Lakers in the 2007-2008 season must make direct contact with the Lakers President, Chris Valeri, to ensure that all MassHockey rules, regulations, and requirements are fulfilled. This can most easily be done at the scheduled registration sessions at the Buffone Rink on Lake Ave. in Worcester on:
  • Wednesday, March 19 7-9pm
This will help us ensure that any issues related to birthdate, town of residence, and waivers from a prior youth hockey organization are addressed and resolved.

You can find a brief description of what's included in the Lakers Youth Hockey program by age group here.

Players who Need to Order Game Jerseys!
If you are new to the Lakers, outgrew your jerseys from last season, or need replacement jerseys because your jerseys were lost or damaged, you must contact Bob Olsen to order jerseys for 2008-09. Bob will be available at Lake Ave. at the scheduled registration date. Alternatively, you can contact him at oad@bellatlantic.net to make other arrangements.

Information on jersey sizing is available here.

Who Can Use Online Registration
This service is available at this time for players at the Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget age levels (birth years 1991-2001 for the 2008-09 season).

You must also have a working email address, and a valid credit card or PayPal account to pay the registration fee of $250 (For Mites-Bantams only).

Midget fees are expected to be $500. Midget registration does not open until June 1st.

NEW for 2008-09: Of the $250 total for registration, $125 is refundable by written request to the Lakers Treasurer up through April 30th. After April 30th, none of the $250 registration fee is refundable. This is a change from past seasons.

Online registration is not available for Mosquito Hockey or the Lakers Learn to Skate program. Registration for these programs usually occurs in September in person at the Lake Ave. rink.

Credits from 2007-08 Assessments
If you have a credit balance from your 2007-08 assessments, you may apply this credit towards registration, and make a payment of $250 less your credit. If you aren't sure if you have a credit, please contact Treasurer Sarah Mongeau at sarahmongeau@charter.net.

How Do I Use Online Registration?
There are 6 steps:
1) Complete all the required fields in the online registration form. Any field not indicated as "optional" is required.

2) Click the "Submit" button.

3) Your information will be checked for completeness. You must correct any indicated problems before you will be able to continue.

4) Pay the $250 Registration Fee using your credit card or PayPal account.

5) Print the Registration Acknowlegement web page for your records.

6) Complete your USAHockey registration online in May. Please make sure you register for the 08-09 season. If you try to register too early, the USAHockey web site may still be set up for last year's season. Print and save the email confirmation you receive with your registration code. See below for more info.

7) Bring your USAHockey Registration code to your first practice. You must provide this to your coach or team manager before going on the ice.

How Do I Pay?
Payment is made by credit card using the PayPal service for making secure credit card payments over the internet. The Lakers are using the PayPal service because it is the most cost-effective way to accept credit card payments for an organization of our size, which may save you an extra trip to the rink. And we believe saving a trip to the rink is a convenience many busy families will appreciate.

A PayPal account is not required, but may be used if preferred. PayPal is widely used for online payments and money transfers, particularly among users of Internet auction sites such as eBay. When your registration information is complete, you will make your payment by clicking the PayPal payment button. This will take you directly to the PayPal website, where you can complete the payment transaction.

When your payment is complete, you will be transfered back to the Lakers Registration web site.

If you do not have a PayPal account and wish to create one, PayPal will ask for your name, address, and other information. Confidential information about your PayPal account will stay with PayPal and will not be provided to the Lakers. You will receive one or more email messages from PayPal asking you to verify your password and other information, as part of their security procedures.

What Happens After I Pay?
A confirmation email will also be sent by PayPal directly to you. Please save this verification for your records.

The Lakers will receive several things when you complete the online registration process:
1) your payment from PayPal
2) an email notification of your payment
3) your registration information

PayPal will not forward your credit card number to the Lakers. Your payment goes to PayPal, who then sends it on to the Lakers.

After your PayPal payment has been received, the Lakers Registrar will verify that all your prior season assessments, late fees and any other fees have been paid, and after verification add you name to the player evaluation roster.
Your name will not be on the tryout roster if the Treasurer cannot verify your paid-up status. If you have any doubts, please contact the Treasurer before Player Evaluations to confirm.

USAHockey Online Registration
In addition to normal registration with the Lakers, ALL PLAYERS must register with USA Hockey prior to being placed on a team roster. Registration with USA Hockey enables proper eligibility for USAHockey roster placement (required by both leagues we play in and tournaments you might attend) and insurance coverage for all players at the beginning of the 08-09 season.

When you complete your USA Hockey online registration, you will receive an email with your confirmation code that looks like this.

You must forward this email to the Lakers District 7 Rep., and you must bring a copy to your first practice. The Lakers District 7 Rep is Harold Knapp (harold.knapp@gmail.com). The Lakers District 7 Rep will use this to place you on a team roster. You cannot be placed on a roster without this confirmation code.

Please direct any questions to Harold if there are any problems processing your USAHockey payment, or if you are unable to use the USAHockey online system for any reason.

Players that do not register with USA Hockey will not be placed on an official team roster and will not be able to skate until the USA registration has been completed. Starting AFTER 5/1/08, the USA Hockey web site can be used to register for the 08-09 season. If you try to register with USAHockey before that, you will end up registering for the 07-08 season which is almost over!

Helpful Hints
If, during the payment process, you are asked if you would like to include a note or comment, we suggest putting the name of the player being registered and your home phone number. That will help us contact you quickly if there are any problems processing your payment.

One person has reported the PayPal did not accept their debit card. If you have problems using a debit card, you may want to try again using a credit card.

If you have problems completing the Lakers online registration process, it may have to do with security settings on your browser, or a firewall that blocks the sending of personal data. Also, the registration process requires that you have cookies enabled. Sometimes people block cookies or turn them off as a way to enhance security. If you have a problem, you might try changing your security/cookie settings (temporarily), or using a different computer that may have more relaxed security settings. This has successfully solved the problem for several people last season.

Important Note!!
The email receipt you receive from PayPal is only verification that your registration fee has been successfully processed. Please print and save this verification for your records. Your registration is not complete and cannot be forwarded to the Lakers Player Evaluation Coordinator until:
  • your $250 registration fee is paid
  • all prior year assessments are paid in full
  • any prior year late fees are paid in full
  • any other fees are paid in full
